Screencasting tips
I was going to post several tips and best practices of screencasting that I have ran across over the years. However, I ran across a great document from TechSmith, the developers of Camtasia. They came up with 59 different screencasting tips, far more than I would be able to share. Keep in mind that these tips also include some needs-finding suggestions as well, but their recommendations about writing a script, practicing, and brushing up on your public speaking skills are helpful. I would only add two more pieces of advice to this comprehensive list from TechSmith.
One, turn your phones off. There are few things more annoying than being into a screencast only to hear the phone of the screencaster going off in the video. Please mute both of your office or home and cell phone.

It will not be perfect
Two, I will share some advice that I give to my public speaking students all the time. Understand that your screencast will not to be perfect. There will be mistakes. Give yourself a over-under on slips of the tongue and enforce it. My rule of
thumb is three slips of the tongue every 5 minutes. Many people don't realize it, but Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I have a Dream" speech contained three such non-fluencies in about 17 minutes.
If the greatest speech of all time had some mistakes, chances are good your screencast will too. Download the file below for TechSmith's great 59 Tips and get started screencasting!
